Yogurt, Tomatoes, Bread and Thou

By Claire
We took a walk on the beach this morning. It’s wonderful how each day is like a new painting; the sky is ever changing, the water is a range of colors, the waves are crashing or murmuring and the smooth rocks are new finds with every step.

A river runs through it

Looks like a brown and white zebra hide to me

The sun was shining and it seemed like a good time to scrub the road dirt off the bikes. Our German neighbors have a wonderful hose and nozzle that has a soft, rain shower spray or a heavy-duty power-wash spray. He kindly loaned it to us.

Ready to GO!

The people here at Camping Finikes are settled in for the duration. We’re talking plants and decorations all around their sites, satellite dishes for their TVs and strangely, laundry that hangs out for days, whether it rains or not. I guess they figure it will get dry eventually. What’s the hurry?

We did have one departure. The Finnish couple is going home now that the temperature has climbed to a balmy 3°C; they were appalled that it is still 20° below in Germany.

Turns out it was cleaning day for almost everyone. So who says German men don’t clean?

We rode into town, what there is of it, and found a “super” market/bakery, news agent and best of all: an ATM. This makes it an ideal setting for our stay. Loading up with the maximum withdrawal—the Euro is down at the moment—we bought our daily bread, more yogurt and some red, ripe tomatoes. We were hoping for a place to buy stamps to send a postcard but, too bad, we’d have to drive to the next town. Or, if we don’t completely wimp out, we could ride I suppose. I'll think about that tomorrow. Right now, it's Kindle time.

  1. You both look very peaceful and content sitting in the sunshine with your Kindles! Seems you had a Perfect Day: a walk on the beach, a short bicycle ride to town (on clean bikes no less!) , and a great Omar Khayyam verse to sum it all up! You will make people jealous! Ha, ha.

    Enjoy!

  2. I love the images of your campground community . . . what a life, but still chores to do. You are having a wonderful "vacation from your vacation!" A loaf of bread, a flask of wine, and sitting with your love reading Kindles . . . who could ask for anything more?

Thanks for the response! Glad you can sometimes follow the blog. I read that there are lots of outside speakers planned for the meditation group; I am sorry to miss that. Thanks for the good thoughts--what about compassion and equanimity, too?
