Life in a Campground

By Claire
Today started out in a very positive way: blue sky and sunshine after a night of wind and rain. Honey and yogurt for breakfast and our usual morning beach walk with plans to bike into town later for bread and an ATM run. But that was not to be. We connected almost too well with our new next door neighbors, Katie and Derek from Australia and New Zealand, respectively. They’ve lived in London for about 4 years and decided on a six month trip by Campervan through Europe before heading back to Australia where her sister lives.

I think it was about 10 am when Katie offered gin and tonic or vodka and orange juice. I don’t remember how many gin and tonics I had but Klaus, from Berlin, joined the party and beer was involved. It’s now 8:40 pm and I think I lost a day. I think we ended up in their camper. I know we had a good time.

We talked a lot about movies and shared a few. They must have 100 movies on their computer! Klaus gave us a tour of his really cool new VW with electronic pop top and went off on his motorbike to get more beer. He came back with a case. Even with limited English, Klaus was a part of the group and we all had a great time. Like I said, I have no idea how much I drank. We ate crackers for dinner.

Time for bed. You can’t expect me to really remember what happened today can you?

I went on a diet, swore off drinking and heavy eating, and in fourteen days I lost two weeks. ~ Joe E. Lewis

Ahhhh...you look so happy!!! Made me smile and laugh. Even if you don't remember, I think you can be sure you had a good time.

Party down!!! I love the photo of you and Klaus with Chuck across the table--A picture is worth a thousand words as they say. A birthday to remember--not sure you will be able to top that one--love, Diane

Dude/s! ~ you've entered the party zone when an Aussie crosses ur path! My sweet dear friend Mary is a mild-mannered librarian (Italian-Aussie) but look out!! ~ down-under folk wrote the book on vacations, fun, & "noice plonk!!" (Ask Katie what that means;)

Chuck really opens-up on camera when toasted, and Claire you seem to be protecting your feminine virtue from Klaus's wandering hands!! haha! A good time was had by all.
ps: crackers were a safe bet for dinner.. crazy that yogourt brkfst was followed by... gin & tonic?! You guys can out-party college kids for sure .. Dude!
