We did nothing at all today other than kick back with fresh croissants delivered to the campground. I have no idea who that is, we were asleep when it happened. We made plans for the next few days, lounged around some more, then took naps. Did a little reading and finally decided we just had to take a bike ride. This time we found the beach without getting lost, locked up our bikes and took a long walk. The amount of shells strewn along the beach is astounding. The sand is powdery and there is no seaweed! The view over the horizon faces somewhere in England.
I am just so thrilled with my bike and so glad it’s a mountain bike. We regularly jump the curbs and are usually on rough, gravelly paths or as we were today, riding on the sand up to the top of a dune to leave and lock our bikes before our walk.
After our ride, we needed to relax some more and then before we knew it, it was time to go get another fresh baguette. Chuck jumped at the chance to run this errand. Unbeknownst to me, he slipped in a chocolate croissant (eaten in private). I only found out when I was adding up the day’s expenses and his sense of accuracy overcame his guilt and shame. Gee, I only wish he’d brought one back for me.
We had a lovely dinner of soup ὰ la Normande—one liter of water to one package of €.74 soup mix and voilá! The baguette represented France’s fourth food group.
For our wine accompaniment, we listened to one of our favorite podcasts, Amateur Traveler.

C & C--I'm loving every minute of your blog. So--have you conquered the French language yet? Also curious if you've been putting on any pounds, what with all of the fantastic food and wine you are enjoying. I suspect you are burning lots of calories by walking and biking. Will you make it to Strasbourg and Colmar? I was there in 1975--the cathedral in Strasbourg was the most beautiful I have ever seen--heard a Bach oboe concerto played there. Claire--can't wait for you to get behind the wheel of Homer. I miss you both!

Don't know if we've gained any weight--no scale. However, our clothes still fit and Chuck looks the same as ever. We are going to Strasbourg and we'll definitely go to the cathedral on your recommendation. I have my doubts about tackling the driving. It really is a challenge, for me anyway. Chuck seems to have mastered it perfectly. You should see him make a u-turn, back up and roar off like it's nothing. I don't think I can do it.

Love the photos of the Normandy beach. Chuck I'm so glad you visited d'Orsay. That was my favorite! Camp life seems so interesting. It's fun to see your neighbors. We are having a heat wave (even today in Santa Cruz) as we head into Fall. I appreciate your weather updates and especially those quotes! OK...where are we going now?
